Lakeside Prairie Farm

The Simon family have been working for 13 years to put their buckthorn infested “back forty” on a path toward oak savanna restoration. With the help of a MN Department of Agriculture Sustainable Ag Demonstration Grant, a bunch of sweat equity, and help from their goat, sheep and cattle friends, they have achieved significant progress in reclaiming the beauty, function, and productivity of these acres.
After learning to manage their own buckthorn they have turned their expertise into a thriving goat grazing business bringing their goats around to help others with their land management needs.

Join us at Lakeside Prairie Farm Monday August 31 to see the progress they’ve made.

Topics covered will include:
-Silvopasture
-Savanna and prairie restoration
-Seeding after buckthorn removal
-Oak regeneration under grazing pressure
-Dealing with other undesirable plants like burdock and thistle after removing buckthorn
-The how to’s of a goat grazing service
-Small ruminant husbandry
-Custom cattle grazing
