Whether you’re just getting started or looking to fine-tune your grazing infrastructure, this hands-on workshop will equip you with practical tools and knowledge to build and maintain effective fences and water systems for grazing operations. Join SFA Farmer Education Director, Jonathan Kilpatrick and SFA Grazing Education Lead, Patrick Toomey, for a comprehensive workshop covering the basics of grazing infrastructure. In addition to classroom discussions, there will be in-field demonstrations showing practical uses of permanent and temporary infrastructure across multiple enterprises. Demonstrations include electronetting applications for small ruminants, including use for buckthorn control with goats, and chickens and exploring fencing and infrastructure materials from the SFA Fencing Trailer.
Topics covered include:
- Selecting an appropriate energizer for your operation
- Proper installation of your energizer
- Grounding systems for energizers
- Temporary fencing options and materials
- Fencing considerations for multi - or mixed-species operations
- Water systems, both piped water and options for hauling water
This workshop is a chance to learn about and handle fencing and water solutions to improve your farm’s grazing management. The content is ideal for farmers with beginning or moderate experience.
Registration: It is free to attend, and lunch is provided. Registration requested, walkups welcome.
