Collin Peterson to Sponsor “Home Grown Economy” Conference
Collin Peterson, Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District Representative and Chairman of the House of Representatives Agriculture Committee, is sponsoring a conference on Monday, April 2, 2007 in Morris, Minnesota at the University of Minnesota titled “The Home Grown Economy” – Foods from Local Farms as an Economic Development Tool. The event will enable attendees to learn about and explore how local foods can become an economic development engine for farmers and rural communities.
The cost is $25.00 per person, and includes a locally grown lunch and breaks. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., with speakers and panel presenters to follow, from 9:00 am- 3:30 p.m. A local foods reception will conclude the day.
Conference information can be found on the Congressman’s website at http://collinpeterson.house.gov and on SFA’s website at www.sfa-mn.org. Toni Merdan, Sr. Economic Development Officer for Congressman Peterson, has worked with SFA and many collaborators in the Pride of the Prairie Regional Food Initiative and in Northwest Minnesota to craft a superb conference line-up, highlighted below. All SFA members, and in particular, all farmers, are highly encouraged to attend. Call Mary Jo Forbord at 877-760-8732 for more information.
