All workshops run from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Registration starts at 9:00 am. The price of the workshop is $25 (if registered at least 7 days before the workshop) or $35 at the door. This includes lunch and breaks featuring organic foods.
The day starts out with an Overview of Organic Dairy: What is it, who is doing it, what are the rules, trends, and economics, what is the market outlook? This is followed by Farmer insights – certified organic dairy producers will openly discuss their rationale for going organic, day-to-day management practices (including feed and nutrition, livestock health, production, and other topics), the successes and difficulties they face…and go onsite with virtual organic dairy farm tours.
After lunch we will focus on Building an Organic Dairy System including: Livestock health and nutrition principles and practices; Crop, pasture issues (weeds, fertility, etc.); Recordkeeping and accountability, organic certification requirements; Transferability of organic methods; Resources you can use; and Questions and Answers
