SFA has started a draft web page with listings of farms for sale or other arrangements. Beginning farmers looking for farms to partner in or buy/rent can list their availability, also.

http://www.sfa-mn.org/farm_tran/ftsummary.htm

We'll be updating this occasionally and upgrading the format as time goes on.

Here's the Wisconsin site:

http://www.datcp.state.wi.us/mktg/agriculture/farm-center/transfers/index.jsp

As you can see, we have some catching up to do. Smile

There are likely opportunities here for the Sustainable Ag Land Trust. The farms that are close to developing areas could look at a Conservation Development. In a typical Conservation Development the most sensitive areas, or in this case the most productive ag land, is set aside from development and protected with a conservation easement. Transfer of development rights is used from the protected areas to increase density in the development. The protected land is set aside as open space or working lands. It may be an option for the landowners to look at. For the SALT it would be an opportunity to keep the lands in production and still meet development demands.

We've just moved the site to:

www.mndairyinitiative.org/farmtran

Anyone can post info here as well.

I was wondering if anything is happening with the Farm Transfer site. The link to the web page doesn't work and nothing has been said of it since april 07.

You're right, nothing has been done with it. It wasa supposed to have been taken over by the Dairy Star newspaper. Not sure of the status right now.
