SFA and Blue Dirt Farm are hosting a hands-on agroforestry planting workshop and farm tour on May 13-14 at Haase Family Farms in Blue Earth. This event is open to anyone seeking valuable experience growing useful plants and getting a feel for future commercial production.
Farmer Scott Haase, who delivered a WOC Talk at the SFA Annual Conference, has been working with designer Dan Halsey to create a perennial cropping system along the margins of his land. This event will include a presentation by Halsey as well as hands-on demonstrations on establishing plants like hazelnuts, elderberries, honey berries, oaks, and more.
Friday night’s events begin with a Blue Dirt Farm tour, social time and tour of Haase’s whole-tree passive solar home at 7 p.m. at 8574 377th Ave, Blue Earth; camping is available. Then, at 8 a.m. Saturday, the group will meet up the road at Haase Family Farms, 7301 377th Ave, for coffee and breakfast, followed by a presentation by Halsey and a day of planting and fence-building at the project site. Look for event signs.
Cost is $35 and includes breakfast and lunch on May 14. For camping RSVP or questions, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
